Pilot · test-mode payments · photos only

Your face.
Your rules.
On the record.

Likeness protects your photos and lets you price the uses you offer. You approve each license request and see what it earns you. In the pilot, payments run in test mode until our payment-provider review is done.

What Likeness does

A photo of you becomes a record: marked, signed and ruled on by you. Platforms can check it and get a straight answer about what you allow.

How it works

Four steps from a photo to a record of how it may be used.

Every step leaves a record you can point to later.

  1. 01

    Upload

JPEG, PNG or WebP up to 20 MB. Each file is checked and cleaned in a locked-down sandbox.

  2. 02

    Protect

A hidden watermark and a C2PA signature are added, then your protected copy is released.

  3. 03

    Set your rules

For each kind of use, choose Deny, License required, or Allowed only for the platforms, buyers, territories or purposes you name.

  4. 04

    Share a decision

A platform can share a card that shows the decision for that exact file. A buyer who needs a license asks for one from your offer.

Earn from your likeness

You set the price. You approve the request.

What is true in the pilot today: payments run in test mode, and payouts are arranged manually.

  • You set the price

Pick a price for the uses you offer. A buyer's request freezes that price in a quote.

  • You approve each request

Nothing is licensed until you say yes. A granted license is fixed: its terms are never edited.

  • Buyers pay by Stripe Checkout

A buyer requests a license and pays on Stripe's hosted page. Likeness never sees card details.

  • 0% fee during the pilot

Likeness takes no fee during the pilot: you are credited the full price of each license. Any future fee would apply only to licenses granted after it takes effect.

  • Manual payouts

Payouts are arranged manually by Likeness during the pilot, and we don't store bank details. We don't promise a payout date.

  • Test mode for now

Payments run in test mode; live payments need our payment-provider review first. Test-mode money is not real money, and your earnings screen keeps it apart.

Opt in to a public page buyers can find, with a downsized preview marked 'Preview'.

Decisions

Five answers. Never a guess.

The same words appear on every screen and share card.

  • Allowed

The rules or a license permit this exact use.

  • Denied

    This use is not permitted.

No license is offered for it.
  • License required

This use may be possible, but only with a license.

  • Review required

A person needs to look at the evidence first.

    Not permission.
  • Unknown

There isn't enough information to decide.

    Not permission.
  • Unknown is not permission. It is never shown as green or as a neutral “OK”.
  • A missing watermark is not permission.A file with no mark and no exact match to a protected copy is Unknown, never Allowed.
  • No service, no answer. If the registry can't be reached, no decision is made. You are never shown a guess.

For platforms and apps

Check uploads before they go live.

Send the image and the use you intend. Get back a decision and a public reason. Partners never receive scores or candidate lists.

Signed receipts
Valid for 60 seconds. Only an Allowed receipt can be consumed.
Background checks
Poll for the result or receive a signed webhook when it completes.
Up to 5 webhook endpoints
Per organization. Deduplicate on the event id.
TypeScript and Python clients
Generated from the API spec, with receipt and webhook helpers.

A dashboard for partners is coming later. The API and the generated TypeScript and Python clients are issued by us during the pilot.

FAQ

Questions people ask first.

Is a file without a watermark allowed?

Not because it has no watermark. A missing watermark is not permission. A file with no mark and no exact match to a protected copy is Unknown, and Unknown is never permission.

What can I set rules for?

Eight kinds of use: Train an AI model; Generate a face; Swap a face; Clone a voice; Publish (organic); Publish (paid ad); Distribute the asset; Make a derivative. Training an AI model is always Deny in this version.

Does a recovered watermark prove a file is the original?

No. The watermark points to a registration, but it is not proof the file is the same picture. If the mark doesn't match the file, the answer is Review required.

Does a share card reveal who I am?

No. It shows the decision, the use it covers, the file's fingerprint and when the decision was made. It expires after 7 days and never shows your identity.

Which media can I protect?

Photos only (JPEG, PNG or WebP).

Does Likeness recognise who is in a picture?

No. Likeness does not look at who is in a picture. A check looks at the file itself: its watermark, and whether it is a copy of a registered file.
